Tips for Safe and Thrilling Adventures: Make the Most of Your Travel Experience

Traveling is an exhilarating experience that allows us to explore new places, cultures and create unforgettable memories. With today being Tourism Day, there’s no better time to plan your next adventure. To ensure you make the most out of your travels, the Sharp team has compiled a list of our personal tips that will help you stay safe, save money and have the best time possible.

Staying Safe on Your Journey

Prior to joining Sharp’s client care team, Ken used to sell travel items and teach travel safety. Ken has kindly put together some safety tips to keep in mind while exploring a new destination.

Don’t post on social media: It’s best to wait until you are back home to post on social media. It’s also ideal to refrain from leaving reviews until you’re back from vacations. Criminals back home can search social media or travel review websites to see who is out of town, and which houses are vacant, making it easier for them to take their time looking for your valuables.

Ensure the tours you book are legitimate: There can sometimes be vendors selling travel tours on the street in tourist areas. Sometimes these tours are fantastic, but it’s always best to confirm with your hotel concierge that the tour is legitimate prior to booking.

Make an allergy card: If you or someone that you are travelling with has allergies, it’s a good idea to carry around a printed card that lists your allergies in the official language of your destination. This way if a restaurant or hotel staff is having trouble understanding what you’re saying, you can present the card and hopefully avoid an allergic reaction.

Saving Money Without Compromising Quality

Traveling on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing the quality of your trip. With some creative planning and smart choices, you can have an incredible experience without breaking the bank. Sharp’s receptionist, Andrea, loves travelling and wants to remind everyone that it’s possible to visit amazing places while staying on budget! Below are some of her favorite money-saving travel tips.

Book a walking tour of the city: This not only helps to get you familiar with the new city, but your tour guide will often share great restaurant options that are less touristy and much more affordable. Lots of these tours, especially in Europe, are free to book, so be sure to take advantage of these!

Use a tracking app for flights: There are many apps out there that will track flights to destinations of your choice for the specific dates you’re looking at. The apps will then alert you when flights go on sale, which could save you hundreds of dollars. Be sure to look at reviews and ensure that you are using a reputable app.

Take public transportation: Researching the public transportation system in a new country could save you a ton of money in taxi fares. Getting a pass is often quite affordable, and a lot of the time, public transportation can be quicker than walking or taking a taxi.

General Tips for an Enjoyable Travel Experience

While safety and saving money are crucial, it’s also important to embrace the joy of traveling and create memorable experiences wherever you go.

Leave some free time in your itinerary: Sarah, Sharp’s Quality Coach, advises to not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone or to stray from your planned itinerary. “The best days are often the ones with no plan,” says Sarah.

Always wear sunscreen: Alexandra, Executive Assistant, stresses the importance of sunscreen. There’s nothing worse than getting a sunburn and feeling discomfort throughout the rest of your trip. It’s always best to carry sunscreen with you to all your activities so that you can reapply as needed and make the most of your time.

Know what activities are best for the time of year: Casey Epp, a member of the client care team, has found that certain activities are better at a certain time of year. If there is a specific activity you are looking to do, it’s best to conduct research before going. For example, Casey suggests that if you like fishing, booking a fishing tour in Cabo San Lucas is fantastic in April! “It’s like watching National Geographic,” explains Casey.

Do not travel without travel insurance: The entire Sharp team can agree on this one, it’s just not worth the risk! Sharp’s staff would love to hear about your upcoming trips and help customize a travel insurance policy that is right for you and your travel plans. We work with the best travel insurance carriers in the country, and we are happy to help you maximize your savings, while ensuring that you’ll be covered if you have an emergency.
