AUTO INSURANCE
What is the minimum required auto coverage?
Personal automobile insurance starts with 3rd party liability then coverages can be added based on vehicle's state and properties and on the client's decisions.
What other coverage should I consider on my auto policy?
There are several coverage options that can be added to your policy for enhancement. These options might be necessary to suit your specific circumstance, and they include:
- * Collision coverage for damages to your vehicle in the event of an accident.
- * Comprehensive coverage for theft, fire, vandalism, cracked windshield and other perils.
- * Increased liability limit enables you to increase your liability limit up to a total of $2,000,000.
- * Loss of use coverage towards a rental vehicle while your vehicle is being repaired after an accident.
- * Rental vehicle coverage extends physical damage coverage to rented vehicles in Canada and the United States.
How does an accident affect my insurance policy?
Your insurance policy will be reviewed in the event of a loss. If you are not responsible for the accident, you will, most likely, not incur a rate increase. However, if the loss is your fault, your policy will be re-rated with a higher rate charged at renewal. In an extreme case, your policy could be cancelled.
HOME INSURANCE
Is a home-based business covered under my home policy?
No. Residential policies are not designed to cover business or commercial operations within your home. Only nominal coverage is provided for business contents, tools and equipment in your home policy and this should not be relied on to cover business assets. Special coverage may be added on to your policy, or a separate business insurance policy may be needed to give you adequate coverage.
Is there other coverage I should consider on my home policy?
Yes. Home, condominium and tenant policies are generally issued with a standard set of limits and coverage that may not necessarily meet your specific circumstances. Additional insurance coverage that you should consider include:
- * Increased personal liability limit enables you to increase your liability limit up to a total of $2,000,000.
- * Antiques & collectibles coverage enables you to realize the true value of the specifically insured items in the event of a loss. Often an appraisal will be required.
- * By-laws coverage (for homeowners) subsidizes additional costs to repair or rebuild your home to comply with bylaws.
- * Earthquake coverage
- * Sewer backup coverage
